- The development of small molecule drugs that mimic the actions of BH3-only proteins is one of the major triumphs of many years of apoptosis research. They are built upon a platform of an understanding the mechanisms of action of BCL-2 family proteins, and particularly a structural appreciation of the interactions between BCL-2 family proteins.
